Sips & Bites | Bungalow, Ramo, CHAO, Orchid, Flo, En Vain and Tim’s

Bungalow and Ramo plan to partner just after Chinese New Year for a night of eating, drinking and–if my experiences with the people who run these places is anything to go by–merry-making. The tiki team will bring their booze, shakers and (possibly) ceramic parrots one street over to Ramo in Fangjia Hutong for a bar takeover. Bungalow will handle drinks — word is there will be three options–while Ramo prepares a special menu. More details soon.

CHAO Hotel and Clubhouse is slated to open in the former City Hotel in July after several years of renovations. The venue will include two restaurants, a bar and a tea house in its members-only club plus several floors of kitchen and dining areas for events such as dinners and popups. This place also has openings for a food and beverage director and an executive chef: click here for details.

The Orchid Hotel will again team up with Great Leap Brewing for a Chinese New Year’s Eve Party. Enjoy free-flow Orchid mulled wine and GLB beer plus snacks and fireworks from 9 PM on February 7. There are 100 tickets at rmb300 each: to guarantee a spot, get a ticket at a GLB outlet or online via Orchid’s weixin account (TheOrchidHotel).

A second Cafe Flo has opened in Beijing, this one in China World Mall, following the original in Parkview Green. The mother ship, Brasserie Flo, is still going strong on Xiaoyun Road.

After nearly three years in Sanlitun Soho, the team behind two-story baijiu bar En Vain, previously known as Oriental Lounge, have packed their bottles and glasses. The trio plan to open elsewhere in March or April. See this recent baijiu tasting at En Vain for the kind of stuff you can expect at the new place.

Finally, Tim’s Texas Bar-B-Q seems to be making a nearly seamless transition from closing its location near Silk Market to opening anew just a hop, skip and jump away in Central Park. The Tim’s signs are already up near bakery / deli Pekotan. — thans to BNZ for the pic! That location should keep the regulars while picking up new customers from Central Park and surrounding areas.
