French | Cafe Flo opens in Sanlitun Village South

By Jim Boyce | After wolfing down a super tasty burger at XL (half-price on Tuesdays) and heading to Union for post-dinner libations to find it closed for the night (electrical issues), I ended up wandering into Cafe Flo, just a few steps away in the former Herbal Cafe.

My experiences at Brasserie Flo, both its former and current locations, and at Cafe Flo in Parkview Green, have been good. And the menu and design of this newest venue suggests more of the same.

I won’t go into too much detail until I actually eat and drink here, except to say I liked the mix of traditional French decor and the comfy seats that offer splashes of color, that the staff I talked to were polite, and that the menu is extensive, covering everything from seafood platters to stews to French classics, very well-organized and fairly priced.

There other things.

First, Cafe Flo now represents another breakfast choice in the area, from 9 AM. It has options such as ham and cheese omelette, sausage, tomato, toast and salad for rmb38 and fried egg, bacon, sausage, tomato, brioche and salad for rmb42, with an espresso or Americano option for rmb8.

The wine list (no surprise) is heavily French and starts from rmb32 by the glass, with a good number of options at less than rmb200 per bottle.

And the menu lists Red Sangria, White Sangri, Mai Tais, Mojitos and Long Island Iced Teas from rmb38 per single serving or rmb96 per liter.

That’s all I’ll say, except that with Union soon closing, Cafe Flo might end up one of my go-to places on that third floor.
