Sandwich specialist Tuk Tuk has opened in Fangjiu Hutong, kitty corner to Hot Cat Club and a short walk from Ramo, El Nido and Fang. In fact, Fang co-owner Zak Elmasri is the man behind the venture.
“Living and working in Gulou, I often find myself stepping out of the door and facing the conundrum of where to eat,” says Elmasri. “I never had a go-to place, and being English and into my sandwiches, I was always baffled at the lack of good options in Gulou and, to be honest, across Beijing.”
Tuk Tuk has a dozen sandwich options, including on wholewheat, baguettes or Ciabatta, as well as a pair of wrap options that use flour tortillas (see full menu below). They range from standards like BLTs and tuna fish to more creative offerings like the beef wasabi on baguette, which includes medium rare sirloin, goat’s cheese, sun-dried tomato and caramelised onions. “Classics’ start at rmb30 while the ciabattas and wraps are priced from rmb45. There are also soups and salads from rmb15.
“We have two service points, a window serving directly to Fangjia and a door on Gongyixiang, which is the cut-through alley that leads to Wudaoying,” says Elmasri
Delivery is also available.
While the opening hours are not yet fixed, he is currently running the place from about 10:30 AM to 10 PM.
