Plenty of places have Fourth of July parties today, including most of your fave craft brew joints, so I’ll stick to just five options in our fair city.
As posted yesterday, Sanlitun village veteran Union Bar & Grille is slated to close in a few weeks. Say farewell and celebrate Fourth of July at the same time with some tasty Buffalo wings, a burger, and happy hour Brooklyn Lager (rmb40) or Kentucky IPA (rmb35) draft, 4 PM to 8 PM.
Nothing says Fourth of July more than guzzling Bourbon in front of a Magnum P.I. poster. In a room with a huge inflatable shark. Unless you have two Magnum P.I. posters. And two sharks. And… anyway, get deals on Bourbon, plus 30-kuai Bourbon cocktail specials and 40-kuai Jet Pilots, from 7 PM to close at Tiki Bungalow Bar. Tell ’em Higgins sent ya.
The Dog House takes over the Jing-A kitchen and will be arf-ering (ha ha!) four options: the Chili, the Philly, the Mexican (includes avocado mayor and jalapeno cream cheese!) and the Sichuan (sounds gongbao jiding-y), all rmb45 each. If you like your dog topping-free, it’s rmb25. Everyone’s a weiner at Jing-A!
Speaking of dogs, if you like the pet variety, head to The Local where there is some kind of presidential pooch election. Apparently, the dog that wins becomes UK Prime Minister and has to negotiate the EU exit and then a union with the superior footballing nation of Iceland. The Local will have a BBQ from 4 PM to 9 PM with hot dogs, burgers, corn on the cob, and more. More includes delicious Boulevard draft beer.
Finally, just around the corner, Home Plate has Stevie Mac & the Mac Daddies playing from 9 PM. I’ve seen this band once, at Modernista, and they were really good. I also can’t believe Home Plate isn’t leveraging one of the all-time best American comfort foods and doing a Stevie Mac ‘n’ Cheese special. On the bright side, customers get a free Jell-o shot if they’re wearing red, white and blue or clothing with a U.S. flag on it.
Enjoy your last Fourth of July with Obama as your president, my friends!
