Some surprising news for Beijing cocktail fans: Botany Bar is slated to close on March 27. This newest version of Botany has been open just a few months but, says owner Frankie Zou, faces a potential major rent hike upstairs as well as noise issues that make daytime time business difficult.
Zou will now shift his attention to promoting Botany gin, a 26-ingredient concoction, including Thai lemongrass, lavender, Sichuan peppercorn and more, that he has spent years fine-tuning. The gin is now being made in commercial quantities in Chengdu and Zou will be working to boost its market presence.
That means just two weeks to enjoy some cocktails and take advantage of the Wednesday night rmb50 pizza and gin tonic (or beer) special (7-9 PM). More on Botany’s gin activities soon.
