Feels weird to post a list of venues that will show this year’s Super Bowl and not include The Den, Tim’s Texas Bar-B-Q and Frank’s Place. Let’s hope they are all off the IR list for the next one. In any case, here are some options for this year’s Carolina Panthers–Denver Broncos game. I’ll post more info as I get it.
Tim’s Texas Bar-B-Q. Tim’s closed near the Silk Market last week and, if all goes to game plan, will reopen in Central Park this week. That quick turnaround is the restaurant equivalent of a pick six! Anyway, Tim’s is checking the feasibility of showing the game. I’ll update soon.
Union: Relax in comfort while feasting on a ‘Jumbo Superbowl Breakfast’–sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, buttermilk pancake with maple syrup, wheat toast with jam, hash browns, and coffee or tea with refill for rmb135. Wash it down with drinks at happy hour prices, 7 AM to 10:30 AM. U.S. brew options include Budweiser and Kentucky Ale. Doors open at 6:30. RSVP: 6415-9117 or on wechat via ‘unioncharlie’.
The Local: Get breakfast and two drinks for rmb100 pre-sale or rmb130 at the door. To avoid overcrowding, The Local will only sell as many tickets as there are seats, so best buy one ahead of time. Doors open at 7.
Paddy O’Shea’s. The UN of Sport–I’ve seen everything from hurling and curling to football and baseball here–will set its dozen screens to the game. There is a rmb100 minimum charge.
Irish Volunteer: Pay rmb150 for free-flow drinks and food from kickoff, which will feature Irish stew and bread, through halftime, which will feature pizza, to final whistle. Drinks include coffee, Tsingtao, Bloody Marys and more. Doors open at 7. RSVP via 6438-5581 / zach010199 (at) aol.com.
Home Plate BBQ: Get the breakfast buffet, including bacon, eggs, sausage patties, pancakes, fruit salad, potatoes, and yogurt and oatmeal, plus free-flow Budweiser, coffee and juice for rmb300 at the door or rmb275 pre-sale. Five TVs plus a projection screen plus drink specials during the game. Tickets are first come, first served. Doors open at 6:30 AM.
Q Mex: I saw most of the game here last year and the breakfast burrito–see photo below–hit the spot. (Unfortunately, I almost ejected it on that tragic last play. Why, Seahawks, why!?) The menu again includes breakfast burritos (rmb60), huevos rancheros (rmb75) and American breakfast (rmb75), all including coffee or juice. Bloody Marys are rmb40, Coronas rmb20 and coffee rmb10.
Centro: Kerry Centre again hosts the official Super Bowl party. It’s rmb238 with American breakfast and free-flow draft beer or fruit juice. Tickets via 8565–2398 / fbreservations.hbkc (at) thekerryhotels.com.
