By Jim Boyce | Pop-Up Beijing returns for the second annual World Baijiu Day with another tasting extravaganza. Many people don’t realize there are baijiu brands in countries such as the United States and New Zealand, but both countries, along with China, will be represented in the half-dozen selections in this year’s Pop-Up World Baijiu Tour.
Also, says co-owner Glenn Schuitman, it’s a sipping, not shooting, event.
“We operate on a strictly ‘no ganbei’ policy when drinking baijiu,” he explains. “Instead, we encourage guests to sip and savour each variety, to better experience the more subtle and delicate notes behind the commonly recognised ‘burn’ of your typical brutal ganbei session!”
Once again, sip, don’t shoot. And try not break any of Pop-Up’s antiques or old-timey reproductions.
The tasting is on Saturday, August 6, at 7 PM, following a 4 PM event focused on baijiu, coffee and tea with Good Works. (I’ll post separately on that!) Pop-Up also is close to Jing-A, which will have its Qu Brew on tap, and Gung-Ho, which will again make ‘drunken shrimp’ pies.
The fee is rmb50, with all money to Good Works and its efforts to train and employ late-teen orphans in the coffee industry.
Book a World Baijiu Tour spot by emailing hello (at) popupbeijing.com or calling 6502-5725 from noon to 10 PM.
