Nary a pop, crack, boom or whistle this week as fireworks are again banned in Beijing for Chinese New Year. The city is quiet, the roads near-empty (the road hogs are gone, ha!) and it feels a little too calm. Compare that to the last Pig year, in 2007, when furious barrages of fireworks filled the sky. Here’s a one-minute video I made then, as the clock struck midnight on Chinese New Year’s Eve, at Workers Stadium. Happy New Year to everyone. I wish you a ham-azing year.
