The launch party for the new Arrow Factory near Liangma River is this Saturday. The party starts with a buy one, get one deal on all beer from 4 PM to 6 PM, plus some free snacks, then shifts to rmb30 per pour from 6 PM onward. There will also be a free keg at 7 PM and 9 PM, and a keg sold at rmb20 per pour at 8 PM, chosen by spinning a “Beer Wheel of Destiny“. If the crowds on previous visits are any indication, this place will be bustling. And if you haven’t been to Arrow Factory yet, beers especially worth trying, IMHO, include Two Birds Lager, Dark Ages Black IPA and New Leaf Oatmeal IPA.

While the team at Migas recently created a buzz by launching this new brunch, work continues on a much bigger project, namely, a second venue is slated to open in December in Guomao. Expect a big space, with a 400-square-meter interior and a terrace of equal size. Also expect a good range of food options, from rmb50 to rmb200 per meal, starting with street eats on the outer level, transforming to more of a market feel deeper inside, and also including a fine dining area.

Rum specialists Cuju near Beixinqiao will hold a Chinese rum tasting next Wednesday. The lineup will includes ten rums from four producers around the country, including Beijing’s own Seawolf, plus a pair of house infusions. The rmb200 event fee gets you a 25 ml sample of each rum during the two-hour evening tasting. RSVP via cujubeijing (at) gmail.com.

Lunch at Beer Mania wakes from its long winter slumber with a crazy good offer: everything on the food menu, from burgers to Belgian fries, is half price from 11 AM to 2 PM, March 14 through March 20. Also get superb value during the happy hours from 4 PM to 8 PM on weekdays and 5 PM to 7 PM on weekends, when all draft beers are half price.

Finally, I mentioned last week that Flow Beer has opened across from Vagabond near Beixinqiao. I visited again last night and the staff said the current operating hours are from about 5 PM until late. Flow has eight draft beers—six of its own and two from Slow Boat—plus a few dozen food options. The Whirling Wild Horse American Pale Ale is worth a try. You can find Flow in Jiadaokou North Second Alley or, if cues work better, start at Cafe de la Poste and then, after relaxing and having a drink, cross the street and go up the first alley on your left.
