By Jim Boyce | Pizza and beer and sun and fun. Plus butter tarts. Good times during the second day of the annual Pizza Cup. I’m amazed, given the city’s political climate, that The Beijinger pulled off this 10,000 person-plus event. A few quick notes:
Best pizza (11 samples): “Detroit style” Pie Squared, with its tasty sauce, and “New York style” Pyro, for its loaded nacho pie. Special mention to One East for the freshness of ingredients on its chuanr pizza.
Best beer (6 samples): Boxing Cat Pale Ale and Boulevard Farmhouse Tank 7. Look for Boxing Cat to do a pop-up in Sanlitun in a few weeks.
Best surprise: Butter tarts by Blaq.
Biggest lineups: Yummy Box and Baozza.
Best music: Stevie Mack and the Mack Daddies, with their usual fun and funky sets. Special mention to DJ Kippy for spinning Stacy Q’s ‘Two of Hearts’.
Finally, best magazine owner dressed as a three-meter high inflatable dancing dinosaur: Mike Wester of the Beijinger. He spent a good three hours inside that suit on Sunday.
