After surviving six weeks longer than expected, veteran establishment The Den closed for good on Sunday after some 18 years of business. The place was packed as fans piled in for last orders and to reminisce. Those who missed news of the closing were greeted with darkened windows on Monday night and The Den was nearly bereft of furnishings when I visited today. Hopefully the team finds a new space in the next few months. Meanwhile, customers who also frequent Paddy O’Shea’s will see a familiar site — The Den’s deck furniture has found a new home there.
Craft brew operation Arrow Factory has added a fish ‘n’ chips night on Tuesdays. Get an order for rmb60 and tack on a pint of ‘Man with the Golden Hope Country Ale‘ for just rmb20 more. This place also has weekday happy hours from 5 PM to 7 PM, when all beers are rmb10 off.
Fans of the manager known as Charlie — he’s had stints at the former Stumble Inn and Take Five — will now be able to enjoy his witty repartee and friendly smile at Union Bar & Grille.
Cafe de la Poste has launched an organic grocery store. True, it’s basically refrigerator space but it’s still convenient for those in the neighborhood or visiting for a meal or beverage. Veggies and more are available daily from 11 AM to 11 PM. Also check out the Cafe de la Poste Christmas tree, with holiday-themed corks decorated by customers.
Finally, given a spate of heavy pollution days over the past month, Two Guys and a Pie are encouraging people to order a Pie Emergency Kit (PEK) for home. The PEK includes a minimum order of six frozen pies plus, during December, a free DVD chosen at random. To see your pie options, check the Two Guys site.
