By Jim Boyce | Heads up, beer fans, Canadian option Out of Step officially opens this Saturday. These guys have been pouring brews from Vancouver producers like Postmark and Black Kettle for a few months now on a stretch between Sanlitun’s main drag and Third Ring Road. The interior skips the usual industrial / warehouse feel for an airier (think pine) and artier (think gallery) look, with space for 40 seated and 60 to 80 standing.
Out of Step carries 10 beers from five producers. They ain’t cheap, but getting them to China ain’t, either. Postmark’s West Coast Ale (rmb55) is fresh and crisp, with a light malty flavor and slightly bitter finish. I also tried a beer named, if memory serves, Destiny, made with six kinds of hops. Six! The food menu was a work in progress: I’d tell you more but have lost most of my notes from that night. I blame this beer plus those six hops:
Saturday’s party starts at 7 PM and will feature a pair of DJs as well as all tap beers for rmb40 per pour. You’ll find it at 4 Sanlitun East Third Street.
