Smoky Tiki Sharky Dino | In a Beijing Le Moment

With an owner from Tao House and former bartender from Tiki Bungalow, it’s no surprise new bar Le Moment on Xindong Road offers everything from private cigar rooms to punchy colourful drinks.

The Tao House comes through via the dim lights, plush seats and illuminated booze-loaded bar back in the main room. It’s rather standard fare for Beijing though it has a few decor twists, including a trio of ten-foot long model sharks hanging from the ceiling.

Those creatures are not so surprising given the inflatable shark — Higgins! — that featured in Tiki Bungalow. Speaking of which, the drink list is loaded with Tiki favorites, including the potent Jet Pilot. There are some 40 cocktails listed, starting from 70 kuai. (Happy hour runs from 6 PM to 10 PM daily with 15 kuai off most drinks).

Beyond that main room, and past a sliding door, the cozy confines include a walk-in wine cellar, display cases for cigars and affiliated accoutrements and two private rooms, one that seats three, and the other eight. Here the decor shifts creatures, with dinosaurs the main focus. (If only a giant flame emitted from that dino mouth to light cigars and incinerate the occasional smoker.)

Anyway, expect the wine list to grow–the owner is in the business–and the food menu, too, with pizzas, seafood and more in the works. I’m told the official opening party is next Tuesday.

(Hat tip to Mr Salty and Gin for the heads up.)
