Chile out | La Cava to host Beijing wine fiesta, opens Shanghai branch

Jim Boyce | My “local” wine shop is La Cava de Laoma in Sanlitun Soho. Besides being close to home, it has nice wines for ~rmb100, stocks labels from favorite distributors like Seina, Sommelier International, Pasion, Australian Natural and Ponty, carries Chinese brands like Hansen and 1421, and has hosted lots of fun parties, including this one to support Maovember. I’ve met a lot of nice people over the years at La Cava while enjoying a glass or two of wine.

Anyway, as mentioned, owner Mariano Larrain has been pretty busy these days. He’s been hunkered in Shanghai for the past month or so getting his new shop ready, this one at the corner of Madang Road and Fuxing Middle Road. It’s now open daily from 4 PM to 9 PM with pretty much the same lineup of wine as in Beijing although these will be for takeaway only.

He’s also been organizing La Cava’s second wine fiesta, slated for this Sunday, from 1 PM to 7 PM. That event will feature wine samples from Argentina, Australia, China, Chile, France and Spain and costs rmb100, which will be reimbursed if you spend rmb200 or more on wine. You can La Cava find it on the ground floor inside building 3—the orange-red—in Sanlitun Soho.

So, whether you are in Beijing and Shanghai, you can now get some La Cava wines! Here’s the new Shanghai shop:
