RIP | Singer of 1968 hit “Does Your Mama Know About Me” with The Vancouvers; mentor to and, say some, discoverer of Michael Jackson; eventually a resident of Beijing and then Hong Kong: singer Bobby Taylor died this weekend at age 83. I first saw Bobby Taylor at the former Capone’s in The Place and he was an excellent singer and character. Read more about his life herehere and here. (Photo: The Beijinger)

UPDATES | While Two Guys and a Pie no longer has a shop, it still does delivery. It is also still part of the social scene and is teaming with Cafe Constellation (across from Gongti North, near Bodhi) for Game of Throne Wednesdays. | As noted, TRB Copper, like many hutong venues, saw its street-facing door recently sealed. But a second entrance means events can go ahead as scheduled. | And as also noted, Groovy Schiller’s finally had its official opening party. Check out the half-price food deal on Tuesdays, with schnitzel, sausage and more, from 6 PM to midnight.

COMING| Cannon’s burgers wowed many at The Burger Cup and word is the new outlet on Xingfuncun Middle Road is on the verge of opening. Will Cannon says it will have delivery. Gongti West’s Joe’s Bar & Grill , involving Lisa Zhuang (The Den, D One), and a cavernous Vin Vie II off Sanlitun South are also in the works.

OPEN | Israeli comfort food providers MoxiMoxi have a new spot at 22 Beixinqiao Santiao. Couchsurfing meetings Wednesday nights from 9 PM;  a buy two, get one free deal on bottle beer, 6 PM to 8 PM, Mondays through Thursdays; and more. Other newcomers include CHEERS at 9 Wangjing Street, Purple Bar in Thai eatery Purple Isle, across from Gongti north, and Tiki Bungalow 3 at Jiadaokou Bei San Tiao, near Beiping Taproom.

JOBS | Recent listings include Airbnb (Food Service Manager), Universal Beijing (Food Service Operations Director) British Council (Exam Services Officer), International Potato Center (Pathologist), Opposite House (Lifeguard) and CHEERS (Event organizer).

I’m also working on World Baijiu Day for August 9, with 20-plus cities already on board, including Beijing. Participants in our fair city include Capital Spirits, Gung Ho Pizza, Pop-Up Beijing, Q Bar, The Schoolhouse and Tiki Bungalow.
